Review of Sigelei Kaos Z. For the glory of the dark gods, Christmas tree, burn!

What should a manufacturer add to a device to attract vapers to its products? A pedometer? A color and/or touch screen? A new battery format? “LEDs!” – Sigelei tells us, offering its Kaos Z 200W box mod.

The Sigelei company has not been pleasing us with truly interesting devices lately, and the domestic market seems to have given way to more agile competitors offering buyers more relevant devices. No, new products from one of the oldest manufacturers of vape devices come out more than regularly, sometimes visually unlike anything else, and sometimes this can be described as “self-plagiarism” or “variations on the theme” of competitors. One of the recently appeared box mods is the Sigelei Kaos Z, developing the theme of the previously released Sigelei Kaos Spectrum box mod, it bears little resemblance to its predecessor, but at the same time is elusively similar to it.

Sigelei Kaos Z 200W packaging

The box mod is sold in a colorful box with a transparent window in the shape of the letter Z, and the packaging is double, and the slot, accordingly, is present both in the “shirt” and in the box. vape coils in new zealand Through it, without opening the package, you can admire your purchase and see what color the box mod is painted. Since there is no information about the mod on the Sigelei website, the line of boxes with other products is highlighted in a separate Kaos branch, which is presented on the kaosecigs.com website, which is indicated in several places on the packaging. On the end, you can see a large inscription with the production date, on the back side – a full list of characteristics, on the side is the inscription manufactured by Sigelei. The guys played it safe and made a note about the age limit of the type 18-21+ and a signature like “figure it out yourself depending on the region”.

The contents of the box are nothing special, except for the amount of waste paper. I would especially like to note the instructions, which now include a competent Russian translation. The manufacturer clearly appreciated the potential of the domestic buyer (finally!), and the official Sigelei website is available in English, Chinese and Russian.

Appearance and design of Sigelei Kaos Z

The box mod is made in the classic form of a box, but with transparent side panels: through one you can see the printed circuit board, tracks and soldered parts (with rubbed off markings); through the other you can see the battery compartment and the batteries installed in it. The frame coating in my copy is black with a slight mother-of-pearl sheen, it looks (at least) quite reliable. The large Fire button is made red for some reason, it clearly stands out from the overall design. Although this is a matter of taste and fans of black and red combinations will argue with me. The panel with the KAOS logo, covering the board, and the screen are sealed with protective films, which are almost invisible. Both the paint itself and the plastic get dirty quickly. There are no sharp edges and corners, all the edges are rounded, but the device is still not very comfortable to hold in your hand, there is some “angularity”. But it is certainly far from “alpha”.

Sigelei Kaos Z 200W Colors

Sigelei produces the Kaos Z 200W box mod in four colors, in all of them, except for the black version that I got for review, the Fire button is black.

The box mod has exactly the same metal connector as a huge number of other devices from “Sigelei” and our old friend Fuchai 213. But if on the “Fuchai” you could safely screw atomizers up to ∅27mm, then here everything that is larger than the classic diameter of 22mm will no longer hang over the connector very nicely due to the shape of the upper platform. It is not clear why such a “downgrade” was achieved when a 27mm wide case would have easily allowed the device’s developers to create a harmonious-looking fit for larger diameter atoms.

Impressions and conclusions

Traces of flux on the Sigelei Kaos Z 200W boardIt’s hard to say (although, no, it’s not hard) who would be interested in buying a box mod with “light music”, but “it” does exist. By the way, it’s not the first one from Sigelei. If we discard this particular feature of the device (a matter of purely personal taste), then the bottom line is that we have a well-made box mod with quite relevant filling. Support for resistance from 0.05 Ohm allows you to use the device even with very low-resistance windings, the main thing is that the batteries in a series connection can give the board 38A without consequences, this should be monitored independently. Fire works almost without delays, the response is very good. The control buttons, however, rattle a little when shaking and touching. The appearance with translucent “guts” to the glory of Nurgle! is also a matter of taste, but it looks quite good.

Angled screen Sigelei Kaos Z 200WA complaint would be phantom misfires, sometimes when you press a button once nothing happens. Although this happens rarely, it is annoying regularly. Regarding the declared firmware update (in the instructions, it is in the second photo in the “package” section), there are big doubts, because there is no section with files on any site, and when connected to a PC, the device is not detected in any way. It seems that here is the same story as with the long-suffering Fuchai 213. I did not like the screen, although there are no serious complaints about it, but it looks like on mobile phones from the 2000s. I did not like the traces of soldering, or rather flux, on the board, which was so boldly put on display. And the panel on this side, screwed with bolts, looks a little awkward. Near the fastener, by the way, there are traces of the tool. Why, given the dimensions of the case, it was impossible to make a larger platform for the atomizers, remains a mystery to me. Well, and, most likely, the quickly dirty plastic panels will not survive the first serious fall.

Liked:

Good (but with flaws) assembly

Metal case (frame)

Rich functionality of the board

Interesting appearance

Support for resistance from 0.05 Ohm

Good connector

High charging current (up to 2.5 A)

Disliked:

Mirror panel on the screen

Fade screen

Fit for ∅22 mm

Soldering marks

Lock play

Sigelei Kaos Z 200W Box Mod

In my opinion, the Sigelei Kaos Z presented in the review is a clear demonstration of the lack of real ideas and innovations among battery mod manufacturers. Yes, there is an interesting “skeleton” type solution (which, however, we have already seen), there is an attempt to attract the user with a changing backlight (designed for schoolchildren?), but in general, this is a good, but otherwise unremarkable device from an old manufacturer, which, apparently, simply does not know what to come up with. The device, although not bad, is a passing one, and most likely will remain almost unnoticed among its own (or even together) box mods from Sigelei.
