Today’s review will focus on one of the latest innovations from the Chinese Vandy Vape — the mechanical squonk mod Pulse BF.

One of the newfangled trends in the vaping market — squonks — the Chinese company Vandy Vape could not ignore and was one of the first to offer vapers its new box mod Pulse BF Box Mod. As in many other cases, it could not do without the participation of a famous person, this time the manufacturer brought in a well-known English-speaking reviewer — American Tony B, the host of his own channel Vapor Trail Channel. Tony is an active user of bottom feeders and has previously participated in the creation of drippers for squonks Pulse BF RDA, i.e. he is well versed in this topic. Let’s see what the American-Chinese tandem ended up with.

Under the foam rubber, on the bottom of the box, there was an instruction in eight languages, with a competent Russian translation. All other add-ons are hidden in a silicone adapter for the 18650 battery, which in turn is located in the battery compartment of the device.

The entire box mod is made of hard plastic, judging by the description on the manufacturer’s website, nylon and high-temperature ABS. I can’t say what parts are made of what exactly, the manufacturer does not specify this information either. The case has a pleasant rough texture, all corners are rounded, almost every plane is decorated with various inscriptions and decorative elements, however, without highlighting in color, which is why they do not look flashy and fit quite well into the overall exterior. On both sides of the device, the covers are removable, in my case, red, on one there is the name of the device, on the second there is the autograph of YouTuber Tony B and the inscription Manufactured by Vandyvape.

At the time of publication of the review, Vandy Vape released the Pulse BF in seven colors, in all cases the body (frame) of the device is black, only the caps are different: red, blue (cyan), gray, black, white, purple or blue. In addition to the complete ones, the manufacturer also offers to choose from and buy panels separately.

In addition, the mod can now be purchased with new translucent panels and in a set with a black Pulse 24 drip tip with a drip tip in the same color as the caps.

The diameter of the connector pad covering the plastic case is only 20mm, on the one hand, it will not be visible from under your atomizer, and on the other hand, the drip pads will rub the rough coating of the case and the appearance of circles around the connector is only a matter of time. The connector is recessed, the atoms sit without levitation, the positive pin is steel and spring-loaded, the stroke is quite sufficient even for long connectors.

Both covers are held in place by magnets, and there are enough of them to prevent the panels from wobbling in your hand. At least, everything holds up well in my copy. There are slots left under the cover on the back side to make it easier to remove the can and battery, there is no ribbon inside.

There is a polarity marking inside the battery compartment, which is largely unnecessary here, since the device is a mechanical mod. The only difference between the contacts is that the “plus” is spring-loaded, unlike the “minus”. The contacts are made of copper and require regular maintenance, since they were slightly oxidized right out of the box. The battery is inserted into the box with noticeable force, it is removed much easier, the cans are very tight inside, do not dangle and do not fall out on their own. In accordance with the market requirements for “Orthodox” mechanical devices, the Pulse BF has no wires or soldering, as well as a MOSFET, which is often used with a similar button.

Impressions and conclusions

I have been using the positive contact of the Pulse BF Box Mod for several days, the device has proven itself to be excellent, no special problems in operation have arisen. There are, however, several comments. The main complaint concerns the material from which the squonk is made. The plastic case does not take or remove heat from the dripper, which is why the atomizer heats up very much and cools down slowly, confidently turning into a red-hot piece of metal. The same applies to the strength and durability of the device: the complete instructions directly state that the warranty does not apply to the case damaged in the event of a fall or impact. There is also a question about how the rough coating will behave and how soon “bald spots” will appear on it over time, many Chinese devices often suffer from this. Well, the biggest complaint concerns the button, which noticeably heats up at very low resistances. With a winding of 0.06 Ohm, after a while, the button simply becomes impossible to touch. Based on all of the above, the conclusion suggests itself that the Pulse BF is poorly suited for very low Ohm.

Ready-to-use Pulse BF Box Mod Be that as it may, the device really deserves attention as one of the first high-quality original squonks of Chinese production. Moreover, for a very affordable price tag. Most likely, thanks to the participation of a well-known Western reviewer of the Vapor Trail Channel, who himself is an active and long-time user of squonks. The box turned out to be nice, small, very pleasant to hold in hands, has a nice, soft and quite reliable (according to Mooch tests) button. There are no questions about the tightness of the device, nothing leaks either during use or when changing the can, it is very convenient to use the device. The advantages include a good spring-loaded connector (for squonks this has not yet become a mandatory option, many manufacturers still produce devices with a fixed pin), concern for user safety, as well as the new 20700 battery format used. It is a pity, of course, that the box does not support the installation of 21700 cans, although it would be enough to slightly change the panels, i.e. make small (1 mm) indentations on the inner sides of the lids, so that the device becomes truly omnivorous.
