Review of Voopoo Alpha One 222W
Today’s review will be about a box mod that became an “ugly duckling”, a battery pack from the Chinese company Voopoo – Alpha One 222W.
The Voopoo Company briskly burst onto the market with its DRAG box mod, which was sold in huge quantities on the shelves of vape shops and in user collections. The manufacturer called the Gene chip, on which the device was built, nothing less than a DNA killer. And although this can, of course, be argued, the fact remains – the device turned out to be very successful and almost immediately made the manufacturer famous. “Hot on the heels” of the release of their hit, the Chinese released a second box on the same chip, but with a power “pumped up” to 222W and with a different design. The device turned out to be controversial and was not met by many reviewers as warmly as the previous device. While the company is preparing to present us with its next development — Voopoo Too, let’s take a look at the “ugly duckling” — Voopoo α-I or Alpha One, on which the manufacturer had high hopes, and try to figure out why they were not met.
Voopoo Alpha One 222W packaging
The packaging itself prepares us for the retro design that permeates the entire box mod. The device arrives in a stylish black and red box with foil stripes and large α and I, which hide the name of the Alpha One device itself. vape new zealand At the bottom there is a small inscription Start Next-Gen Vape, exceptional modesty from Voopoo. On the back side, the package contents are listed, there are warnings about use and age restrictions (21+), a bunch of different icons and a sticker with a verification code for the authenticity of the product. On the red part there is a small gray circle indicating that there is a silver case inside, one of two possible options.
Voopoo Alpha One Delivery Set
Voopoo Alpha One 222w TC Box Mod
Micro USB Cable
User Manual and Warranty Card
The set is not rich, there is only a short cable and a couple of standard booklets: a warranty card and detailed instructions with illustrations in English, which theoretically can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. Theoretically, because the button on the Download page is simply inactive.
Appearance and design of Voopoo Alpha One
Someone Alpha One reminds of an old cassette player, someone of the Soviet VCR “Electronica VM-12”, someone of the legendary radio receiver “Ocean”. If the box mod was a work of art, it could well be attributed to constructivism: “strictness, geometricism, laconicism of forms and monolithic appearance.” The manufacturer put the appearance at the forefront and called it Geometric Minimalist Design, it can be called nothing other than “for an amateur”. Namely, a fan of retro design and simple forms without any soap-like roundings and large color screens. It is immediately obvious that this is not a toy, in our device there is not a single rounded or sloping corner, here are exclusively straight forms. For some reason, this design evokes the impression of reliability, which is rare among Chinese devices. Maybe the inscription on the packaging Designed in California has real grounds?
When I wrote about the “angularity” of the Voopoo Drag, I did not hold the “alpha” in my hands. And it can cause serious injury to yourself or others, especially if you apply all your strength: impressive weight, very sharp corners and edges, minimal chamfers that practically do not save. In general, the ergonomics of the device are inferior even to the old “sigelei” and get a well-deserved “minus one hundred” out of five possible points. The color of the mod’s body is silver, the lid is gray-brown. The metal cover of the battery compartment has a texture reminiscent of radiator fins, in fact, it serves as a cooling device, removing heat when heated. On one side of the lid there is a small insert with the logo of the α-I device, on the other side there is the inscription Vape It Your Vape in white paint.
In addition to the Gray design considered in this review, there is also a Black, completely black one. In my opinion, it still loses in “vintage” to the silver Voopoo Alpha One.

Impressions and conclusions
Voopoo Alpha One 222W buttonsI have had the Voopoo Alpha One box mod for almost two weeks and I have been actively and happily using it all this time. Once again I would like to throw a stone at the manufacturer for the inconvenience and angularity of the case, but at the same time praise the extraordinary appearance of the device. I understand that I am unlikely to find those who will support me, but I myself fell in love with its appearance. I already wrote above that such a design for some reason involuntarily evokes a feeling of reliability, and I really hope that the device will turn out to be so. It is only a pity that the “hanging” buttons make me doubt this very much. I really miss the control button lock, with the help of “+” and Fire everything is blocked at once. The problem of supplying voltage to the mod when changing modes by pressing Fire three times has not gone away, no matter how quickly you press it. Apparently, the board’s response is too fast.
Zeus RTA (25mm) on Voopoo Alpha One 222W The Gene Chip board, which has proven itself excellent in DRAG 157, is a definite plus: instant response (the manufacturer assures that the Fire response time is a record 0.025c), resistance support from 0.05 Ohm, high current output (somewhere they write up to 55A, in the instructions – 45A). The build quality is excellent, nothing dangles or rattles, although some barely noticeable “curves” give away the country of origin of the device. There are no questions about the coating, how it will behave after prolonged use remains to be seen, but there are no scratches or abrasions on the case yet. Atomizers of straight shapes and large diameter look great here (and quite organically on a square platform), the device, although not small, cannot be called huge – 90 mm is still a normal “height” for a square box. Well, and always at your disposal is a fast charge with a current of 2A, if you have the appropriate charger.
Liked:
Design!
Atomizer seating ∅25mm
Support resistance from 0.05 Ohm
Automatic setting of power and voltage depending on the winding
Excellent assembly
Fast response
High charging current
Disliked:
Very sharp edges and corners, very inconvenient
Flimsy buttons
Adjustment by 1 W
Smart does not work in varivolt mode
Drop RDA (24 mm) on Voopoo Alpha One 222W
Apparently, Voopoo simply overdid it with the design, forgetting about basic ergonomics. The high price at the start of sales did not help either.
